Class Syllabus

The following topics will be covered in the class as well as discussions on best practices:

  • Versioning - Versioning enables you to store, track, and restore items in a list and files in a library as they are changed.
    • Overview
    • When versions are created
    • Working with major and minor versions
    • Version numbering
How versioning works with content approval
    • How versioning works with file check-out
  • Approval Workflow - The Approval workflow routes a document or item that is saved to a list or library to a group of people for approval. By default, the Approval workflow is associated with the Document content type and it is thus automatically available in document libraries.
    • How does the Approval workflow work?
    • Add or change an Approval workflow for a list, library, or content type
    • Start an Approval workflow on a document or item

  • Working with pages in a publishing site - In a publishing site, Web pages are stored centrally in the Pages Library. A check-in and check-out system ensures that the pages are edited by only one person at a time, and the Versioning feature helps track the changes. By default, each page must be approved by one reviewer before it can be published.
    • Work with pages in a publishing site
    • Create a page
    • Edit a page
    • Save a page
    • Edit a previously saved page
    • Check in a page
